Why I love Friday the 13th

Did you know that, in many ancient cultures, 13 is the number of the divine feminine? This is because the moon has 13 cycles per calendar year and, on average, women have 13 menstrual cycles per year, as well.

And did you know that Friday is named after the Frigya, the Viking goddess of love, fertility, gold, and beauty? Friday is also associated with the goddess Venus.

So Friday the 13th is an especially potent day to connect to the divine feminine within—we all energetically contain the divine feminine no matter what gender you identify as. We all also contain the divine masculine within.

So why have we been taught from childhood to fear Friday the 13th?

And why have we been taught to fear emotions and vulnerability? (Anyone else told they were “too sensitive” as a kid?) Why have we been driven to prioritize doing instead of being? And why do we mock the magical unseen and insist that there is only one “right” perspective?

These are all symptoms of a world that’s fallen out of balance. The feminine aspects—feeling, intuition, receptivity—have been devalued and the masculine aspects—strength, assertiveness, expansion—have been inflated to the detriment of many. Neither is “good” or “bad” but when these energies are in a state of imbalance, we are not at peace. We can see the disharmony. We can feel the energetic instability.

So what can we do to restore equilibrium in this world?

It sounds so simple… but it’s so true.

It begins with you.

The baby steps you take toward restoring balance create a ripple effect out into the community, the world, the universe. You can invite the divine feminine to reemerge by honoring your emotions, listening to your intuition, creating art, and giving yourself space to rest and just be.

The Grand Canyon started out as a flat expanse of land and its transformation began with a single drop of water.

Do not underestimate what a drop of water can do.

Do not underestimate the importance of you.
